The search for Goofy Grape

There are those times when all your best parenting skills are challenged. This is one of those times for me...

Nate is not so picky about most things except for toothpaste. Ever since we started brushing his teeth he will only use Tom's of Maine Goofy Grape. In the past, we tried countless others (that are easier to locate and cheaper) only to toss them out because they were "yucky".
Last week we went to get a new bottle of Goofy Grape at Whole Foods (of course they are the only ones who sell it) and it was no longer there, and I was told they no longer carried it. Nate who was not happy about this emphatically told me he would NOT use the other two choices strawberry or orange. I bought a travel size of the strawberry anyway. *You can see where this is going right?* That evening Nate refused to brush his teeth with the strawberry even though I had given him my very best sales job on the topic. As he was crying and saying "I want to brush my teeth. I don't like strawberry" over and over and over again I consulted the Tom's of Maine website only to find that it has been discontinued. I showed him the website and explained the meaning of discontinued - he was then even more distraught.
Through an odd twist of fate, the next day I went to a HUGE dental conference with some colleagues. In the exhibit hall was a booth for Tom's of Maine. After sharing this story with my colleagues and a lovely woman named Pam at the booth, the search for Goofy Grape has expanded. Pam shared that her boys also love this flavor and she would search for any remaining bottles at their office, and my dental colleagues have sent messages to the higher ups of Tom's of Maine. We will see if something comes out of all this, although the strawberry is being used reluctantly.
